Mole National Park, Ghana The Senegal Thick-knee is distributed in Africa south of the Sahara and north of the Equator as well as along the Nile Valley. There is a distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found beside rivers and lakes and in mangroves as well as grassland close to water. |

It has a single black bar both above and below a greyish wing panel.
It feeds mainly at night and exclusively on land where its prey consists of invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians and small rodents. Its song is a series of clear, piping notes rising in pitch and speed before falling away. |
