The Lizard Buzzard is distributed in most of Africa south of the Sahara. It is found in woodland, savanna and in agricultural areas where it feeds on insects, small rodents, grasshoppers and lizards.

Lizard Buzzard, Ghana, June 2011 - click for larger image It is a still-hunter, sitting on a perch, often quite open as in photos 1 and 2, staring downwards before swooping to the ground.

It is a stocky grey raptor with a black stripe on the throat and a white band on its black tail.
