Its taxonomy has caused a bit of debate over the years. Originally it was thought to be a cuckoo then a roller.
It is now normally placed in a family on its own the Leptosomidae. This is associated with the families of Rollers and Ground-rollers but
recent DNA studies now suggest that it is sister to a large group including Rollers and Trogons.
Its song is loud and distinctive. Local belief is that it heralds the end of rain. |
