The Crested Coua is endemic to Madagascar where it is found in fairly dry forest, grasslands and spiny bush mainly below about 700 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

Crested Coua, Ankarafantsika, Madagascar 2016 - click for larger image Rarely seen on the ground, it forages higher up in the forest up to the canopy. It feeds on insects, geckos, chameleons and fruit.

It has a wide variety of vocalizations.
