Verreaux's Coua is endemic to the south and south-west of Madagascar. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in semiarid thorn scrub up to 100 metres.

Similar to Crested Coua C. cristata, it is smaller with whitish underparts, a smaller area of blue skin round the eyes and a thinner bill. Like the Crested Coua it is an arboreal coua feeding mainly on insects.
