The Chestnut-naped Francolin is endemic to Ethiopia and Somalia where it is found at between 2,500 and 4,000 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

Chestnut-naped Francolin, Bale Mountains, Ethiopia, January 2016 - click for larger image It is a large Francolin with a red bill and black forehead. The crown and nape are chestnut-coloured and upperparts and underparts are heavily scaled. It feeds in coveys on the ground taking insects such as termites and seeds which it takes from plant heads rather than by digging.
