Cassin's Honeybird is distributed south of the Sahara from Sierra Leone in West Africa to western Kenya and south to northern Angola. It is found in primary forest, gallery forest and forest edges mainly in the canopy or middle levels.

Cassin's Honeyguide, Kakum National Park, Ghana, May 2011 - click for larger image It has a thin, pointed bill, white eye-ring, white outer tail, olive-green upperparts and pale grey underparts. This is the sub-species P. i. flavodorsalis which is smaller than the nominate with paler underparts and more yellowy-green above.

It feeds mainly on insects but occasionally on small fruits.
