The African Thrush is distributed in a broad band south of the Sahara from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to Angola and Zambia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in a variety of woodland and forest edge habitats including gardens.

African Thrush, Yabello, Ethiopia, January 2016 - click for larger image There are nine sub-species which vary mainly in the depth and extent of orange on the belly. It is similar to Abyssinian Thrush T. abyssinicus but is duller and leaner with a less orange bill and no orange eyering.
