The Yellow-faced Parrot is classified as Vulnerable due to the rapid destruction of its cerrado and caatinga habitat combined with its semi-nomadic habits which make it difficult to protect.

It eats mainly fruit and seems to be particularly fond of mangoes. Its semi-nomadism suggests that it depends on rather unpredictable food sources.
