The White-winged Guan is endemic to Peru where it is restricted to a small area in the north-west. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in valleys in the western Andes foothills with dry, deciduous forest at between 300 and 900 metres.

White-winged Guan, Chaparri, Lambayeque, Peru, October 2018 - click for larger image It is the darkest of the Penelope guans and the only one with a two-tone bill. The white on the closed wing can be concealed.

With habitat destruction and a dwindling population it is classified as Endangered.
