The White-throated Tapaculo is endemic to Chile and is distributed from Antofagasta to Curicó. It is found in dry scrublands where it is normally seen on the ground but sings from a perch in one of the bushes.
White-throated  Tapaculo, Fray Jorge N.P., Chile, January 2007 - click for larger image It is very similar to the closely related Chucao Tapaculo S. rubecula but does not have the orange-red throat. It is brown above with a white supercilium extending well behind the eye. Underparts are whitish with brown barring.
