The White-collared Jay is distributed on the eastern slope of the Andes in Peru and south to central Bolivia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in cloud forest and elfin forest from 1,600 to 3,000 metres or higher.

White-collared Jay, Abra Barra Negro, Amazonas, Peru, October 2018 - click for larger image This most northern sub-species C. v. jolyaea has a narrower white collar than the other sub-species but it is sufficient to distinguish it from Turquoise Jay C. turcosa.

It is uncommon and its habitat is under threat which has led it to be classified as Near Threatened.
