The Streaked Tuftedcheek is distributed in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in the canopy and subcanopy at between 1,700 and 3,400 metres.

It is an epiphyte specialist probing bromeliads and moss for arthropods and small frogs.
