| Spot-winged Pigeon (Patagioenas maculosa) (aka Columba maculosa) |
| The Spot-winged Pigeon is distributed from central Peru to south-east Brazil and south to central Argentina. It is found in dry semi-open habitat such as the espinilho near Barra do Quaraí in Rio Grande do Sul and in agricultural land. Its most distinguishing feature is the spotted effect on the wing-coverts. |
| The sub-species C. m. albipennis found in Peru and Bolivia has less noticeable spotting and a conspicuous white band across the wing. It has recently appeared in northern Chile where photos 4 and 5 were taken. It feeds mainly on seeds and is regarded as a pest in Argentina where it attacks sunflower crops. |
