The Spot-breasted Antvireo is classified as Near threatened by Birdlife International although it seems to be locally quite common at Ubatuba where photos 1 to 5 were taken. Photos 5 and 6 were taken at Serra Bonita, Camacan, Bahia

It is found in the Atlantic rain forest and secondary growth woodland of south-east Brazil reaching into Argentina at Iguazú.

Male Spot-breasted Antvireo, Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brazil, July 2002 - click for larger image The male is dull olive above with a grey head and showing what looks like a broad white stripe behind the ear-coverts which is made up of white spots. The underparts are yellow with grey spots on the breast.

The female, as in photos 3 and 4, is similar but has a rufous crown.
