The Spot-breasted Antvireo is classified as Near threatened by Birdlife International although it seems to be locally quite common where these photos were taken.

It is found in the Atlantic rain forest and secondary growth woodland of south-east Brazil reaching into Argentina at Iguazú.

Male Spot-breasted Antvireo, Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brazil, July 2002 - click for larger image The male is dull olive above with a grey head and showing what looks like a broad white stripe behind the ear-coverts which is made up of white spots. The underparts are yellow with grey spots on the breast.

The female, as in photos 3 and 4, is similar but has a rufous crown.
