The Slaty-breasted Wood-rail is a bird of south-east Brazil and neighbouring parts of Paraguay and Argentina.

It is found in forest and woods preferring marshy and boggy areas and is generally difficult to see.

It is distinguished from other Aramides wood-rails in the region by the grey on its belly as well as its head and neck. Note also its greenish bill.

There is an illustration in HBW, Volume 3, Page 172.
