|Slate-throated Whitestart Myioborus miniatus
(aka Slate-throated Redstart) Colombian name: Abanico Pechinegro
The Slate-throated Whitestart is distributed from Mexico through Central America and into the mountains of northern Venezuela and the Andes from Colombia to north-west Peru. There is a disjunct population in the tepuis of Venezuela and northern Brazil. See the distribution map at NatureServe. It is found in lower montane forest mainly between 700 and 2,500 metres.
|A member of the New World Warbler family, it looks markedly different at the two extremes of its range. In
the north the breast and belly are red but this gradually changes to the yellow found in the South American sub-species.
