Semipalmated Sandpiper Calidris pusilla
San José, Lambayeque, Peru
October 2018

The Semipalmated Sandpiper breads in the subarctic tundra of North America and overwinters along the coasts of northern South America and some Caribbean islands. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. Although numbers still appear to be reasonably high they have been decreasing quite rapidly so this species is now classified as Near Threatened.

Its legs and fairly short, straight bill are black and it has a pale superciliary and greyish streaking on the side of the neck and chest.
