The Rufous Casiornis is distributed mainly in central Brazil, north-west Argentina and western Bolivia but austral migrants can move north into Amazonian Brazil and Peru. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. This bird would be an austral migrant

They are found in deciduous and gallery woodland and scrub but, on migration, are mainly to be found in riverside woodland and thickets.

Although looking similar to a becard it is uniformly rufous above and has a much longer tail.
