Brazil The Red-billed Pied-tanager is distributed in the Guianas, the lower Amazon Basin and much of western Amazonia south of the Amazon river. It is found in the borders and canopy of humid forest. All three of these photos were taken from canopy towers. |

It is fairly unmistakable with its red bill, and white underparts contrasting with the black back, head and throat. Two black bands cross the chest at an angle. The female is similar but has a grey nape, back and rump as can be seen in photo 3. It is usually seen in small groups accompanying a mixed-species canopy flock, as it was in the first photo. It eats mainly fruit but also some insects. |
