The Purple-crowned Fairy is distributed from south-east Mexico through Central America to western Colombia and south-west Ecuador. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in lowland forest and forest edges mainly up to 500m.

These photos are of male birds with a purple crown (lacking in the female) and a green band between the black band under the eye and the white throat.
