The Peruvian Sierra-finch is distributed in the Andes of Peru and Bolivia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open areas with shrubs or Polylepis woodland at between 2,800 and 4,700 metres.

It forages on the ground and is often associated with mixed flocks.
