The Orange-fronted Barbet is distributed in rainforest on the western slopes of the Andes in south-west Colombia and north-western Ecuador. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. Its population is declining due to habitat loss and so it is classified as Near Threatened.

The song is a low-volume trill sounding like a distant motorbike.
