The Brown-chested Barbet is distributed in a smallish area of Amazonian Brazil south of the Amazon between the rio Madeira and the rio Tapajós. It is usually seen in the forest canopy.

Brown-chested Barbet, Borba, Amazonas, Brazil, August 2004 - click for larger image It has a black mask through the eye, a dull gold crown, a brown breast band and the throat is buffy-white in the male and buffy-white with black spots in the female (see photo 2).

We saw it feeding at a fruiting tree and Short & Horne note that it also eats insects.
