There are 2 sub-species and it would appear that the nominate breeds in the Andes of north-central Chile and western Argentina while the sub-species M. f. brevirostris breeds in southern Chile and southern Argentina but migrates northwards to the Andes western Bolivia and Peru from March to September. From this I assume that the sub-species in these photos is the nominate.

It has a pale ochre crown patch which can look very pale in the strong sunlight. It also has a white forehead. Its wings are long and almost reach the tip of the tail and they have a pale panel on the secondaries.
