The Cinnamon-bellied Saltator's range lies in Mexico and Central America. See the distribution map at xeno-canto.

It was previously lumped with Bluish-grey Saltator and Olive-grey Saltator in the Greyish Saltator complex.

They are dark grey above with a white supercilium, white throat and black malar stripe. Below they are a lighter grey turning to ochraceous-buff on the belly and undertail coverts.
