The Mountain Wren is distributed in the Andes from western Venezuela to north-west Argentina. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in forest and forest borders mainly between 1,500 and 3,500 metres.

Mountain Wren, Rio Blanco, Caldas, Colombia, April 2012 - click for larger image It tends to be more rufescent than House Wren T. eadon and has a bolder supercilium ranging in colour from buff in the north to white in the south.
