The Lined Seedeater breeds in the interior of south-east and central Brazil, Paraguay, south-east Bolivia and northern Argentina. During the austral winter it migrates across the Amazon Basin to northern South America.

Male Lined Seedeater, Aguas de São Pedro, São Paulo, Brazil, December 2006 - click for larger image The male, shown here, is black above with a white crown stripe and white malar streak looking a bit like a moustache. It also has a white wing speculum. Underparts are white.

The female is olive-brown above and buffy-yellow below with a yellowish bill.
