The Lettered Araçari has a generally yellow bill with a row of short black lines (the "letters") on the upper mandible leading away from the edge. It is entirely yellow below with no bands and it has a blue patch round the eye. The male has a black face while the female has a chestnut face. |

It is found from Colombia to
Bolivia and in the Amazon Basin south of the rios Negro and
Amazon where it inhabits mainly forest. There is a disjunct
population in Pernambuco and Alagoas where photos 4 and 5 were
taken. It feeds on fruit, insects and nestlings of birds such as swallows and finches. |
