Peru and Ecuador

Lafresnaye's Piculet is distributed in south-east Colombia, eastern Ecuador and northern Peru with a disjunct population along the Amazon in north-central Brazil. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in the canopy of lowland forest and in foothills up to 1,400 metres.

They are yellowish-green above and barred below with no streaks. The male's head is speckled white with either red or yellow on the forecrown while the female is speckled white as seen here.

Baron de Lafresnaye was a French ornithologist and collector (1783-1861)
