The Jandaya Parakeet is a Brazilian endemic. Sick classifies it as a sub-species of Sun Parakeet A. solstitialus but HBW regards it as a species within the superspecies comprising A. solstitialus, A. jandaya and A. auricapilla.

Jandaya Parakeet, Goiás, Brazil, February 2002 - click for larger image It is found in the north-east of Brazil and likes forest edges, plantations and farmland provided there is woodland nearby.

It eats fruits including mango and cashew pulp as well as palm-nuts, rice and maize. If anything this species is benefiting from forest clearances.
