Hellmayr's Pipit is distributed in the Southern Cone of South America.. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in grassland mainly of medium height grasses.

It is difficult to distinguish it visually from other South American pipits but has a band of fine black streaking across the breast and a little streaking down the flanks. It is easier to identify by its vocalisations.
