The Golden-collared Toucanet is distributed in the western part of the Amazon Basin. It is found in forest and forest edges where it feeds mainly on fruit but also on insects and small birds.

Male Golden-collared Toucanet, Palmarí, Amazonas, Brazil, September 2003 - click for larger image The HBW and Birdlife International Checklist treats this as a separate species but many authorities lump it with Red-billed Toucanet S. reinwardtii giving it the English name Golden-collared Toucanet. They have very different bill colouring. The Green-billed Toucanet has a black bill but with the base a green-grey colour.

The male, seen in photos 1 and 2 has a black crown, throat and belly while this is replaced by chestnut in the female which you can partly see in photo 3.
