The Great Pampa-finch is distributed from south-east Brazil to central Argentina and central Bolivia. It is found in areas with tall grass and shrubs often in marshy areas such as here near Cassino, Rio Grande do Sul.

It is usually quite easy to see as it tends to perch on the top of clumps of grass or bushes.
