The Golden-tailed Parrotlet is a Brazilian endemic confined to forest fragments in north-east and south-east Brazil. Because of its low population and the deforestation that has been taking place in these regions Birdlife International has classified the Golden-tailed Parrotlet as Endangered.

Male Golden-tailed Parrotlet, Jaqueira, Pernambuco, Brazil, March 2004 - click for larger image It is bright green with yellow round the blue eye-ring and looking almost pink on the forehead. The primaries are black and the short, square tail is golden-yellow with black tips though the central retrices are green. The female is similar except that the tail feathers are yellowy-green.
