The Golden-rumped Euphonia is distributed along the Andes from Venezuela to north-west Argentina with a disjunct population in south-east Brazil and neighbouring territories. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in semi-open habitats and forest borders and is strongly associated with mistletoe.

The male has a blue crown, black mask, yellow rump and yellow underparts.
