The Golden-plumed Parakeet is distributed in the Andes from Central Colombia to southern Peru. See the distribution map at NatureServe. It is found in forest, cloudforest and treeline shrubs mainly between 2,400 and 3,400 metres but down to 1,400 metres at times. These photos were taken at 1,900 metres.

It is mainly green with yellow tufts behind the eye and an orange-yellow patch on the lower breast.
