The Glossy-black Thrush is distributed in the Andes from northern Venezuela to north-western Argentina. See the distribution map at NatureServe. It is found mainly at between 1,500 and 2,800 metres in forest and at forest edges. It is primarily arboreal and rarely seen on the ground.
