The Ecuadorian Hillstar is a near endemic to Ecuador with only a small area in adjacent Colombia. It is found on both slopes of the Andes mainly between 3,600 and 4,600 metres in vegetation just below the snow-line. See the distribution map at xeno-canto.

Ecuadorian Hillstar, Antisana, Napo, Ecuador, November 2019 - click for larger image The male seen here in photos 1 and 3 has a glittering purple hood while the female in photo 2 is less flamboyant. They are seen feeding on the orange-flowered Chuquiragua bushes which should be regularly checked if you are looking for these lovely hummingbirds.
