The Dusky Piha is distributed in the Andes from Colombia through Ecuador to the extreme north of Peru. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in montane forest mainly between 2,000 and 3,000 metres where it feeds on fruit.

It is the largest Piha with a long tail. It is generally grey with a paler throat.
