The Diademed Plover is distributed in the Andes from north central Peru through western Bolivia to south-central Chile and south-central Argentina. It breeds at between 4,000 and 5,000 metres and is found only on water-logged bogs.

Diademed Sandpiper-Plover, Lauca N.P., Chile, February 2007 - click for larger image It is a spectacular bird with a black head and a white band all round the crown. The nape is rufous and it has a long, thin, downcurved bill.
