The Brown-breasted Parakeet is endemic to a small area of the eastern cordillera of the Colombian Andes. See the distribution map at NatureServe. It is classified as Vulnerable by Birdlife International.

Brown-breasted Parakeet, Chingaza, Cundinamarca, Colombia, April 2012 - click for larger image It is found at the edges of the cloud forest, in elfin woodland and on the páramo at between 1,800 and 3,400 metres. It feeds on fruit and seeds but its habitat is being encroached by agriculture. It is also vulnerable to persecution as a crop pest.
