The Brown-breasted Bamboo-tyrant is distributed in south-east Brazil and is a Brazilian endemic. It is found in the undergrowth of Atlantic Rain Forest and in secondary woodland especially where there are stands of bamboo.

Brown-breasted Bamboo-tyrant, Intervales, São Paulo, Brazil, April 2004 - click for larger image It is similar to Drab-breasted Bamboo-tyrant H. diops but has a buffy supraloral spot and eye-ring as well as a buffy tinge to its throat and breast.
