The Bronzy Inca is distributed from northern Venezuela through the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru into Bolivia. It is found on the edges of forest and in areas such as coffee plantations from 1,500 to 2,600 metres. For a distribution map see Birdlife International.

It is a trap-line feeder and it feeds on the nectar of various flowering shrubs such as Fuchsia and Heliconia.
