Brazil and Ecuador The Black-and-white Hawk-eagle is distributed from southern Mexico to Colombia and in South America south to northern Argentina though it seems to be absent from much of western Amazonia. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in a variety of forest habitats but seems to prefer being close to rivers. |

It is a very attractive smallish eagle with white head and underparts, a black mask and crest, yellow eye and
orange cere.
Although widespread it is relatively uncommon. Photos 1 and 2 show the first record of the species from the Serra de Carajás. |
