The Bicolored Antpitta is distributed in the Central Andes of Colombia from Antioquia south and in the north of Ecuador. It is found on the ground and understorey of montane forest mainly between 2,400 and 3,150 metres.

It is classified as Vulnerable by Birdlife International because of its slowly declining population due to habitat loss.

The song is a single up and down whistle repeated at intervals of a few seconds.
