The Bay-ringed Tyrannulet is distributed in south-east Brazil, eastern Paraguay and north-east Argentina. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in the canopy of the Atlantic Rain Forest and, as such, can be difficult to see.

It has a chestnut surround to its yellow eye, pale underparts and is yellowish-olive above with no wing-bars.
