The Tasmanian Thornbill is distributed in Tasmania and the islands of the Bass Strait. It is found mainly in the understorey of forest, woodland and scrub.

It has a rufous forehead and compared to Brown Thornbill A. pusilla it has a shorter bill, a greyer breast with less streaking, whiter underparts and a longer tail. | |||
