The Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is distributed along the top end of northern Australia, down the east and into the south-east and Tasmania. It is also found in Papua New Guinea and nearby islands. Habitat is varied from rain forest to suburban parks but it requires trees for roosting and nesting.

It is white with a blackish bill and a forward-swept yellow crest. It also has a yellowish wash to its underwings and undertail.

They are often found in large, noisy flocks which screech endlessly as they leave their roost in the morning and return in the evening.
