| Menindee, NSW, Australia March 2006 The Red-kneed Dotterel is distributed throughout Australia but mainly on inland wetlands. It is occasionally seen at the coast except in eastern Australia. |

| It has a black hood and breastband round a white throat. Above it is mid-brown with a white line between the wing and the black to chestnut line on the flanks. The "knee" is a dull red as can be seen in photos 2 and 3. These are of an immature with a duller, browner hood and breastband. The bill is dull red with a blackish tip. | ||||
